Homework

Each day your child will be bringing home a daily folder and a student planner that lists all homework for the evening.  Please take time each day to go over these items with your child and sign the planner before returning it the next day.  I believe that building responsibility takes diligence, and I will be keeping a record of unfinished homework and unsigned student planners.  I understand that occasionally, due to a busy night or unforseen circumstances, homework won't get finished and/or the planner won't get signed.  I totally get it!  I am looking for an overall sense of responsibility.

Homework to expect ...

Spelling:  Most weeks there will be a list of spelling words for your child to study.  Tests will be on Fridays (unless otherwise noted).  Throughout the week there may be spelling practice sheets sent home for homework.  These will be due the next day.

Math:  Many nights there will be a math homework sheet (or part of a sheet) for your child to complete.  This is meant to reinforce skills taught in class.  Math homework is due the next day.

Study Guides:  When appropriate, I will send home study guides to prepare for upcoming tests.  Much of the test prep happens in class, but occasionally a home study guide is beneficial as well.

Reading:  All 4th graders are expected to read at least 20 minutes at home each day.  Please help make this a habit for them.  P.S.  Your child can still benefit at this age by occasionally reading aloud to you or listening to you read to them.  Make it a special time together!

Other:  Occasionally there will be additional homework depending on what we are doing in class.  Additionally, if your child is absent or doesn't complete something during the time given at school, he or she will most likely have extra homework to stay on pace with the rest of the class.
